Brief
The customer wanted personalised place cards in the shape of a dove. Each one was to carry a guest’s name and serve both as a marker for the seat at the table and as a gift.
She had a clear idea of the shape, but no vector file. She supplied a reference photograph and a list of names.
Solution
We drew the dove shape as a vector file based on the photograph. We chose 4 mm birch plywood. It has a light surface with a fine wood grain, on which laser engraving creates a natural contrast.
Production took two steps: first the laser cutting of the dove shape, then the engraving of the name in the chosen font. We prepared the names from the supplied list, so every piece is unique.
Why plywood? It is strong enough for the dove to last as a keepsake, and it works well for both cutting and engraving.
Result
Before producing the whole series, we gave the customer a sample piece for approval. Once she confirmed it, we made all the doves.
For the guests, the place cards were a thoughtful detail, not a mass-produced item, and most of them took theirs home as a memento of the wedding day.
