With made-to-order production, not every part costs the same, even if they look similar. It helps to know what affects the price. That way you can decide where it is worth changing the design.

Size and volume of the part

A larger part needs more material and a longer production time. In 3D printing, shape also matters. A part of the same volume can be much more demanding if it has supports, thin features or a lot of detail.

Technology

The technology determines how the price is calculated. In 3D printing, it is mainly print time and material use. In CNC milling, it is machine time and program preparation. In laser work, it is engraving or cutting time. In scanning and modelling, a large part of the price is the work of processing the data.

Material

Different materials differ in price and in how difficult they are to process. Metal is harder to machine than wood, and nylon is printed differently from PLA. If a cheaper material is enough for you, it often pays to choose it at the design stage.

Preparation

Preparation includes checking the model, setting up production and, for milling, preparing the program and workholding. If a model is not ready for production, expect it to need editing.

Finishing

Basic cleaning, removal of supports and deburring are a normal part of production. Sanding, filling, painting and other treatments mean extra work and increase the price.

Quantity

With a larger quantity, the preparation is spread over more pieces, so the price per piece can be lower. How much you save depends on the technology and the part, so we assess it for each specific order.

Minimum order value

A minimum order value applies to every service. It covers preparation and operation even for very small parts. The exact value is given in the calculator.

How to influence the price

  • simplify the shape and reduce the number of details,
  • choose a material that suits the real use,
  • supply a good-quality model without errors,
  • specify the exact quantity and surface requirements,
  • get advice before the design is finished.

Indicative estimate

In the calculator you get an indicative price range for each service. It is an estimate, not a binding quotation. We set the final price after reviewing your files.
